Sister Nancy E. Westmeyer

Sister Nancy Westmeyer, 80, formerly known as Sister Mary Bernardus, of the Sisters of St. Francis of Tiffin, Ohio, died at 12:39 am Monday, May 8, 2023, at Michigan Medicine of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.  She was born September 7, 1942, in Toledo, Ohio, to Bernard Wilson and Mary Margaret (Fecso) Westmeyer.

Surviving are her sisters, Frances (Al) Ousky and Margaret Knicely, her brother, Frank (SueAnn) Westmeyer, her brother-in-law, Bill Lambrecht, and her sister-in-law, Suzan Westmeyer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two infant siblings, Catherine and Anthony, two sisters, Rita Lambrecht and Mary Serote, a brother, Bernard Westmeyer, Jr., and a brother-in-law, Paul Serote.

Sister Nancy was received into the Franciscan community on August 12, 1960.  She served as a teacher at St. Francis Convent High School in Tiffin, in Edgerton, Custar, Millersville, and at Lima Central Catholic High School.  She was a parish minister at St. John Parish in Delphos, and at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in Ann Arbor, Michigan.  In the Diocese of Toledo, she served as Director of Spiritual and Pastoral Services.  With Bishop Albert Ottenweller she co-founded and was director of Vision Time, Inc., and for the next ten years worked with parish staffs to develop servant leadership.  In recent years she had served as a minister of presence, accompanying people struggling with difficult life situations.  Among other things, Sister Nancy loved learning, writing, and publishing.

The Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 am Monday, May 15, 2023, in St. Francis Convent Chapel, with visitation one hour prior to Mass. Burial will be in St. Francis Convent Cemetery. The live streaming link is:  https://www.youtube.com/live/sGLWBdyibuY?feature=share

A Christian Wake Service will be held via Zoom on Sunday, May 14, at 7:00 p.m.

There will also be a Memorial Mass at 10:30 a.m., Sunday, May 28, at St. Martin de Porres Parish in Toledo.
