Sister Edna M. Ricker

November 12, 1922 — June 5, 2021

Tiffin

Sister Edna Ricker, 98, of the Sisters of St. Francis of Tiffin, Ohio, died Saturday, June 5, 2021, at 7:23 a.m. at St. Francis Home.
She was born November 12, 1922, in Fort Jennings, to Charles and Helen (Bensman) Ricker.

There are no immediate surviving family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Sister Alma Ricker and Eleanor Ricker; and two brothers, Phillip and James Ricker
Sister Edna began her ministry as a housekeeper at Millersville, Blakeslee, Toledo, Reed, Bucyrus, Marywood, Edgerton, Willard, and Custar. At the motherhouse in Tiffin, she worked in the main kitchen, served as the lawn supervisor, and later as the clergy housekeeper. She was also a faithful visitor to the residents of the State Hospital in Tiffin. Later in life Sister Edna became a companion caregiver for her sister, Eleanor and others in addition to volunteering at Vancrest Nursing Home in Delphos. Upon her return to Tiffin, she was a Minister of Prayer and Service. At the time of her death, she was serving the congregation as a Minister of Prayer and Presence.

Sr. Edna enjoyed taking care of the flowers she planted – especially her beautiful dahlias, and making craft items for the Mission Fairs in Fort Jennings, Kalida, Payne, and Cardinal Stritch High School. She was an avid card player and enjoyed putting puzzles together. Sister Edna didn’t miss an opportunity to let others know how proud she was that she and many members of our congregation were from Putnam County.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 Sister Edna was definitely a “people” person. As a resident at St. Francis Home, she enjoyed visiting with the other residents and playing Bingo – especially when she won.

We, the Sisters of St. Francis, wish to extend our gratitude to the nursing staff and everyone at St. Francis Home for the wonderful care Sister Edna received during her stay as a resident.
