Sister Barbara Jean Miller

Sister Barbara Jean Miller, 71, of the Sisters of St. Francis of Tiffin, Ohio, died at 4:50 a.m. Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at St. Francis Home.

She was born February 8, 1952, to Julius and Marjorie (Keller) Miller in Bellevue, Ohio.
She is survived by her mother, two sisters, Rosemary Yanik and Joanna (Tim) Harris, and two brothers, Roger (Michele) Miller and Larry Miller.  
 
She was preceded in death by her father, her stepfather, Jack Campbell, and her brother-in-law, Michael Yanik.

Sister Barbara Jean became a Sister of St. Francis on August 31, 1975, and made her final profession on August 16, 1981.  She received her Master of Arts from Duquesne University, Pittsburgh.

Sister Barbara Jean taught at St. Mary High School in Paducah, Kentucky, St. Bernard School in New Washington, and St. John School in Delphos. She served as Pastoral Associate and Music Director at St. Anthony Parish, Milan; a Pastoral Associate at St. Peter, Upper Sandusky, St. Mary Parish, Kirby, and at St. Joseph, Plymouth.  She then served her community as Vocation Director until her death.

Sister Barbara Jean loved life, people, and music. She was talented as a guitarist and accompanied eagerly and generously in the parishes she served also at Heidelberg University and the convent.  She also loved Lake James, gardening, cooking, entertaining, walking, puzzles, cards, and board games.  

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis Home or to St. Francis Convent.

Visitation will be Sunday, September 17, 2023, 2-5 p.m. with a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. by Zoom, and Monday, September 18, 2023, 1-4 p.m. at the St. Francis Convent Chapel.

The Funeral Mass will be 4 p.m. Monday, September 18, 2023, at the Convent Chapel. Fr. Gary Walters will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Francis Convent Cemetery.
