Robert Joseph Traunero, 95, of Tiffin, died at 8:20 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, 2021, at The Willows at Tiffin.

He was born August 21, 1925, in Tiffin, to Louis C. and Leona (Schreck) Traunero.  He married Lois Jean Smith October 27, 1951, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fremont.  She died March 1, 2008.

Survivors include three daughters, Susan (Robert) Rupert of Bozeman, Mont., Janet (Dr. Steven) Fudge of Sylvania, and Marla (James) Lang of Tiffin; three sons, John (Patricia) Traunero of Newark, Del., Paul (Richarda) Traunero of Oak Hill, Va., and Richard (Andrea) Traunero of Tiffin; 19 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren; and a sister, Judy (Karl) Burns of Pickerington.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a daughter, Nancy Kiser; a grandson, Jason Kiser; two brothers, William Traunero and Brother Damian (James) Traunero; and a sister, Mary Frances Brown.

Bob was a 1943 graduate of Calvert High School and served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946 during WWII as a Pharmacist’s Mate Third Class aboard the USS Ostara.  He served in the Pacific Theater of Operations and was awarded the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.

He retired in 1988 as a utility worker at Whirlpool Corp., Clyde, after 25 years of service.  He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, had worked with the church funeral luncheon committee, and was a member of the National Rifle Assn.  He had also assisted in operations at the Traunero Funeral Home.

A private visitation will be at Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 S. Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio  44883 (419)447-3113.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 19, 2021, at St. Mary Catholic Church, con-celebrated with Rev. Matthew Rader and Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating.  The Rosary will be recited 30 minutes prior to Mass at the church.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the United Veterans Council of Seneca County.

Memorials may be made to Calvert Foundation, St. Mary Church, or Stein Hospice.
