Robert Eugene Elchert, 89, of Tiffin, died 10 a.m. July 4, 2020, at his residence. He was born March 14, 1931, in Tiffin to Reuben and Gail Marie (Kear) Elchert. He married Elizabeth (Betty) Sattler May 7, 1955, in St. Rose Catholic Church, Perrysburg, Ohio. She died December 13, 2000
He is survived by two sons, James (Margi) Elchert of Hillsdale, Michigan and Mark (Kelly) Elchert of Charlotte, North Carolina; three daughters, Jayne (Randy) McCormack of Lilburn, Georgia, Judy (Mike) Ruhlen of Tiffin, and Karen (Joe) Williams of Camas, Washington; 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; and his special friend Donna Fate of Tiffin.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, a brother Donald Elchert and a sister, Carol Bain.
Robert was a 1949 graduate of Calvert High School and he served in the United States Army from 1951 - 1953 during the Korean War. He worked at the A & P Grocery Store, San Mar Pharmacy and he retired from B & K Medical Services. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Seneca Hills Golf Club. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing Bridge, making Rosaries, and woodworking. He was a general handyman who could fix anything. He was a Friend to everyone and was always at ease with new friends. He had a fabulous sense of humor, loved a bad joke and cherished his time with his grandchildren.
A walk-through visitation for family and friends will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2020, with a Wake Service at 8 p.m., at the Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 S. Monroe St. Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419) 447-3113. Visitors are asked to wear masks, social distance as they walk through, pay respects, and exit without lingering.
Prayers will be said at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 2020, at the funeral home followed by the Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Rev. Joseph Szybka will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The rosary will be recited 20 minutes prior to the Mass at the church. The United Veteran’s Council will perform military rites at the gravesite.
