James Clarence Borer

James Clarence “Jim” Borer, 87, of Tiffin, died at 2:15 pm Sunday, January 5, 2020, at Mercy Health Tiffin Hospital.

He was born October 8, 1932, in New Riegel, to Albert and Armina (Elchert) Borer.  He married Mary Lucy SanGregory July 16, 1955, in St. Mary Catholic Church, where they enjoyed 64 years of marriage, and she survives in Tiffin.

Also surviving are two sons, Joe Borer, and Tom (Cindy) Borer, both of Cincinnati; a daughter, Cathy (Dick) Sliwinski of Westerville; nine grandchildren, Ciara Borer, Vanessa Borer, Nicole “Nikki” Borer, Jonathan Borer, Jeff Borer, Drew Sliwinski, Maria Sliwinski, Robby Sliwinski, and Matthew Sliwinski; a great-grandchild, Finn Borer, two step-grandchildren Courtney Strong, A.J. Strong, two step-great-grandchildren, Richie Strong and Ryan Strong, a brother, Lloyd (Jan) Borer of Tiffin; a sister, Jean Montz of Tiffin; and a sister-in-law, Kay Borer of Upper Sandusky.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kenneth Borer.

Jim was a 1950 graduate of New Riegel High School and proudly served in the US Air Force for four years.  He retired from customer service, having worked 35 years at ITT Sterling.  He also worked for 14 years at Toledo Abrasive, retiring in 2001, and after retiring he enjoyed working at Sears.  He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Catholic Knights of Ohio.

He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.  He spent many hours showing the kids how to do things in his workshop and he loved to take his grandchildren fishing and was an avid woodworker.  He was active in his church as an usher, reader and a distributor of communion.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, January 9, 2020, at Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 S. Monroe Street, Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419)-447-3113. A wake service will be at 3:30 p.m.

Prayers will be said at 9:30 a.m. Friday, January 10, 2020, at the funeral home, followed by the funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church. Rev. Matthew Mammen will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery with the Seneca County United Veterans performing military rites at the gravesite.

Memorials may be made to Parkinson’s Foundation, St. Mary Catholic Church or to Stein Hospice.
