Dorothy Jean (Angus) Puffenberger, 101, of Tiffin, Ohio died peacefully at 6:15 a.m. on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at St. Francis Senior Ministries, Tiffin. Dorothy was born April 3, 1920, to Fredrick and Pauline (Binder) Angus. She married Richard J. Puffenberger, Sr. on September 30, 1944, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tiffin.
Surviving family members include one daughter, Judy (Bob, deceased) Zimmerman of Sidney, Ohio, two sons, Rick (Becky) Puffenberger, Jr. of Sylvania, Ohio and Jim (Deb) Puffenberger of Bratenahl, Ohio as well as eight grandchildren, Greg (Stephanie), Geoff, Mark, Matt and Sarah Zimmerman, Mary (Scott) Henthorn, Mike (Kathryn) Puffenberger and Katie (Rob) Wambo; and eight great-grandchildren, Cooper Zimmerman, Leah and Mason Wambo, Nora and Jack Puffenberger and Jackson, Magdalene and Armella Henthorn.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard, a sister, Eileen LaFontaine, and a daughter, Jane Catherine Puffenberger.
Dorothy was a 1938 graduate of Tiffin Calvert High School. She was an outstanding student excelling in math and voted by her peers for May Crowning. She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and volunteered in the St. Joseph School library for many years while her children attended there. She was an active member of the Josephine’s and the Rosary Altar Society. She served as a volunteer for the Mercy Hospital Mobile Meals program and at the St. Francis Ministries Gift Shop.
Dorothy served as the bookkeeper and a part-time salesperson for the family business, Puffenberger Floor Coverings. She loved to play cards with family and friends and formed a formidable euchre team with her husband Richard. Later, as a nearly ten-year resident of Friedman Village, she became a marathon Rummikub player. Nothing though was more important to Dorothy than family.
Visitation for family and friends will be 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, followed by the funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Rev. Joseph Szybka will officiate. The rosary will be recited 30 minutes prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will take place immediately following in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
