Obituary

Charles Arthur “Art” Floyd, 97, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 6, 2023, at Elmwood at the Shawhan in his hometown of Tiffin, Ohio. He was born April 4, 1926, in Graniteville, South Carolina, to Fred G. and Leona R. (Bardon) Floyd. He married Mary C. Keller on May 30, 1952, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tiffin. Mary passed away June 5, 2012, after celebrating a beautiful and adventure-filled 60 years of marriage.

Art Floyd was the beloved father of two sons, Gary (Heidi Knodle) Floyd of San Francisco, California, and Greg (Suzanne) Floyd of Columbus, Ohio. One of Art’s biggest joys in life were his granddaughters, Emily Floyd Mack (Patrick), Erica Floyd (Jacob Schnur), and Elinor Floyd, of San Francisco, California. He was also a cherished friend and companion to Shirley Valentine of Tiffin, Ohio.

Art was beloved by all, and known for his gentle spirit, infectious laugh, and gift of storytelling. He had a great sense of humor and an incredible zest for life. He was happiest surrounded by friends, all of whom he treated as family, kicking back with a cold beer, or “orange”, as he would call them. He knew the backroads of America like the back of his hand, and impressively visited all 50 states with his wife, Mary, during their retirement. He always greeted everyone with his signature “God love ya!” and a warm smile.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Floyd and sister, Helen Hornick.

Art was a 1944 Junior Home Graduate in Tiffin.  He retired from Gray Printer Company after 37 years as a Printing Press Operator.   He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Calvert Boosters, Lions Club, and Tiffin Moose Lodge.

Visitation for family and friends will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, April 13, 2023, at Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 S. Monroe Street, Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419) 447-3113.

Prayers will be said at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 14, 2023, at the funeral home, followed by the funeral Mass at 1:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Rev. Anthony Coci will officiate.  Burial will take place immediately following in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.  The rosary will be recited at the church 30 minutes prior to the Mass.

Memorial contributions may be made to Tiffin Calvert Catholic School, or The National Parks Foundation, in honor of Art’s love for the great outdoors.
