Vernon H. “Cannonball” Kinn, 84, Market Street, Tiffin, Ohio died Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at his residence.

He was born December 12, 1926 in Alvada to Henry and Victoria (Pahl) Kinn. He married Gloria Baker Hites and she survives.

Other survivors include three step-sons, Robert (Judy) Hites, Vernon (Cathy) Hites, and Norman (Lori) Hites all of Tiffin; two step-daughters, Jeannie (Emmet) Fitch of Tiffin, and Doris (Gilbert) Trevino of Toledo; a daughter-in-law, Sandy Hites of Daytona, Fla.; 19 step-grandchildren; 32 step-great grandchildren; 11 step-great great grandchildren; a brother, Norman Kinn of Tiffin; two sisters, Rita Reinhart of Fremont, and Martha Smith of Findlay.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a step son, Larry Hites; six brothers, Ted, Cletus, Cyrill, Jerry, Raymond, and Herman Kinn, two sisters, twins, Mary Magdelene and Mary Catherine Kinn and a grandson, Richard Hites.

Vernon served in the United States Army from 1950 – 1952 during the Korean War in the Buffalo Bill Quinn 4th Division 17th Infantry where he was awarded the Purple Heart and many other medals. He retired as a heavy equipment operator for area construction companies. He also did electrical and mechanical work.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Eagles of Tiffin, V.F.W. Post 15036 Kansas City, Mo. American Legion of Tiffin and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans of Tiffin.

Visitation with the family will be 2-8 p.m. Friday, February 25, 2011 at Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 South Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio, 44883 (419) 447-3113.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory with the Rev. Eric Culler officiating. Burial will follow in Seneca Memory Gardens with the United Veteran’s Council of Seneca County performing military rites at the grave.

Contributions may be made to American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, Alzheimer’s Foundation, and American Diabetes Foundation in care of Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory.
