SISTER MARY ALBERTA ETZKORN

Sister Alberta A. Etzkorn, 94, of the Sisters of St. Francis in Tiffin, died at 6:15 pm, Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at St. Francis Home.

Sister Alberta was born August 14, 1914, to the late Frank and Rose Anna (Luersman) Etzkorn in Landeck, Ohio.

She is survived by a great-niece, Sister Rita Wienken of Sisters of St. Francis of Tiffin; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Rose Anna Etzkorn; two sisters, Theresa Wienken and Margaret Hempfling; and two brothers, Albert Etzkorn and Clarence Etzkorn.

Sister Alberta’s ministries include housekeeping at Reed, Blakeslee and St. Anthony Pilgrim House, Carey; a nurse’s aide at St. Francis Home; a dietary aide at St. Francis Home and St. Francis Convent; seamstress at the motherhouse; sacristan at St. Francis Home, and assisting retired priests at St. Francis Home. At the time of her death, Sister Alberta was a minister of prayer for the congregation.

Sister Alberta was known for her favorite pastimes which included writing to shut-ins, flower arranging, caring for plants, photography, and reading. When she was asked what brought her the most joy, she responded, “Being with people … helping people.

The Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 am, Saturday May 2, 2009 at St. Francis Convent Chapel with the Rev. Frank Murd officiating. Burial will be immediately following in St. Francis Convent Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 am-1 pm Friday, May 1, 2009, at St. Francis Home Chapel, and 2-7 pm, Friday, May 1, 2009 at St. Francis Convent Chapel. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 7 pm Friday in the Convent Chapel.

Memorials may be made to St. Francis Convent or St. Francis Home.
