Sister Emily Fox, 81, of the Sisters of St. Francis of Tiffin, Ohio, died at 9:30 am Sunday, February 16, 2014, at Ross Heart Hospital, Columbus.

She was born October 24, 1932, in Bucyrus, to Paul and Marie (Beran) Fox.

Surviving are her brothers, Tom Fox of Findlay, Tony Fox of Mansfield, Don Fox of Bucyrus, Dick Fox of Santa Fe, NM, and Carl Fox of Peebles.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, Rita Smith, Rosemary Stinchcomb, Sister Martha Fox, and Elaine Fox; and six brothers, John, Jerome, Bob, James, Ed, and Paul Fox.

Sister Emily served in food service at the motherhouse in Tiffin and Carey, Ohio. She reached out to people of all ages. She worked in childcare as a group leader at St. Anthony Villa in Toledo, Ohio, and in Elder Care at St. Francis Home in Tiffin, Ohio. Until the time of her death she worked in health care as a reflexologist and pedicurist at St. Francis Convent.

Sister Emily was an avid reader. Carving and sewing were her favorite hobbies. Her first 560 pieces of art included ducks, deer, saints, angels, clinging crosses, and wood spirits. Her sister, Rita, and her aunt Helen, sparked her interest in doll-making. Seventeen of her 37 wood-carved dolls were modeled after her family members. Other carvings included the founder and foundress of her religious community, St. Francis of Assisi, and a smiling Jesus. Sister Emily said, “Each piece, in its own way, becomes a unique creation and a challenge.” “There is a kind of archetype in my carvings,” she said, and identified it as ‘happy carvings of the family life.’”

Visitation will be 2 to 6:30 pm, with a Wake Service at 6:30 pm, Thursday, February 20, and 1 to 4 p.m. Friday, February 21, at St. Francis Convent Chapel, 200 St. Francis Ave., Tiffin.

The Funeral Mass will be 4 pm Friday, February 21, 2014, in St. Francis Convent Chapel, with Rev. Frank Murd officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Francis Convent Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to St. Francis Convent or St. Francis Home, in care of the Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 S. Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419) 447-3113.
