Sister Alice Pethe, 97, of the Sisters of St. Francis in Tiffin, died at 9:15 pm, Friday, July 10, 2009 at St. Francis Home, Tiffin. She was born December 24, 1911 in Frenchtown, Ohio to the late Joseph and Alice (Kirian) Pethe.
She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Alice (Kirian) Pethe; three sisters,Christine Jacobs, Esther Parker, and Catherine Slater; and five brothers, Raymond, Cletus, Linus, Herman, and Vincent Pethe.
Sister Alice served in many ministries: teacher at Fort Jennings, Carey, Millersville, Central Catholic High School in Toledo, and St. Francis High School in Tiffin; team member of the Better World Movement; novice mistress and councilor for the congregation; diocesan director of religious education in Ottawa and Defiance; and pastoral associate at St. Michael’s Ridge; and teacher of bible classes to various parishes throughout the Toledo Diocese. In Vero Beach, Florida, Sister Alice ministered in Leadership Development in Neighborhood Apostolate for St. Helen’s Parish. At the time of her death, Sister Alice was a minister of prayer for the congregation.
Sister Alice was known for her love of the scriptures. She taught the bible to adults for about twenty years. Sister Alice had time for her hobbies. She enjoyed making candles, knitting, and crocheting.
Visitation will be 1:30 – 8:00 pm Monday, July 13, 2009 at St. Francis Convent Chapel. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 7:00 pm in the Convent Chapel
The Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at St. Francis Convent Chapel, Tiffin officiated by Rev. James Peiffer. Burial will follow immediately in St. Francis Convent cemetery.
