Sister Yvonne Fischer, 82, of the Sisters of St. Francis of Tiffin, Ohio, died at 5:25 pm Thursday, April 23, 2026, at St. Francis Home, Tiffin.
She was born July 18, 1943, in Delphos, to John Benedict and Emma Martha (Dickrede) Fischer.
Surviving are two brothers, Arnold (Helen) Fischer, and Vernon (Judy) Fischer, and a sister-in-law, Edna Fischer, all of Delphos, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Robert Fischer.
Sister Yvonne earned a bachelor degree from Mary Manse College, Toledo, in 1970, and a master’s in guidance and counseling from Toledo University in 1978. She began her life of service as an elementary teacher at Carey, New Washington and Custar, Ohio. Her love for children led her to become a group director and child care worker at St. Anthony Villa, Toledo, Ohio. While remaining in Toledo, she became an elementary school counselor. She then served as a pastoral associate at St. Mary Parish, Defiance, director of religious education at St. Gerard Parish, Lima, and pastoral leader at St. Mary Parish, Bluffton, before serving the community as a community councilor in 2002.
While remaining community councilor, she also served as director of religious education at St. Mary Parish, Clyde, from 2006-2010. She later worked again as pastoral associate at St. Joseph Parish, Plymouth, while also serving as Director of Initial Formation for the community. Later she became pastoral care coordinator at St. Charles Borromeo Parish, Lima, and volunteered as spiritual director at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima. Sister Yvonne returned to Tiffin in 2026.
Among other things, Sister Yvonne enjoyed visiting the sick in various hospitals, spending time with her family and community, traveling with family and friends, hosting holiday celebrations for her family, gardening and especially caring for her many African violets.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 30, 2026, from 9 to 10:30 am, in St. Francis Convent Chapel. Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 am in the chapel, with burial following in St. Francis Convent Cemetery.
A Christian Wake Service will be held via Zoom on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at 7 pm. Guests who would like to participate in the Wake Service via Zoom or the Funeral Mass via livestream, please contact Sister Rozanne Swope at rswope@tiffinfranciscans.org or 419-250-1162 for the link.
Memorials can be made to St. Francis Convent or St. Francis Home.
