Robert J. Simmons, age 76, of North SR 101, died at 4:46 p.m. Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at the Ohio Veteran’s Home, Sandusky.
Robert was born on February 4, 1933 to the late Joseph T. and Eleanor (Cornelius) Simmons in Pittsburgh, Pa. He married Suzanne Pahl on January 12, 1952 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin and she died April 24, 2008.
Survivors include; one son, Jeff Simmons of Whitehouse; one daughter, Andrea Imes of Fostoria; five grandchildren, Mitch Simmons, Elayna Simmons, Christopher, Jeremy and Jamie Imes.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph Simmons, Jr. and Leonard Simmons; and one sister, Rose Picciuto.
Robert was a 1951 graduate of Calvert High School. In 1952 he signed and was briefly with the Cleveland Indians baseball team. He then joined the Army and served in the Korean War. Robert retired from the American Standard. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, a life member of the Amvets Post 48, and the Knights of Columbus, 608.
Family and friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, February 12, 2010 at Traunero Funeral Home, 214 South Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio, 44883, 419-447-3113. The funeral
will follow visitation at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Gary Walters officiating. Burial will take place immediately following at St. Joseph Cemetery. The United Veteran’s Council of Seneca County will perform military rites at the grave site.
