RITA ANN (Miller) KASUGA

Rita Ann Kasuga, 94 years, of Defiance, Ohio and formerly of Tiffin, died at 11:50 a.m.  Friday, June 14, 2013 at Defiance Hospice Care Center, Defiance.

She was born Aug 11, 1918 in Reed Township, Seneca County, Ohio to Charles Ignatius and Anna Mary (Schoeffel) Miller.  She married Walter J. Kasuga in Reed Assumption Catholic Church in Attica and he survives.

Other survivors include a son, William Jude (Mary Jane) Kasuga of Defiance; two grandchildren, B.J. (Lindsay) Kasuga and Michelle Kasuga; a brother Cyrillus Miller of Mansfield.

She is preceded by a daughter, Nadya Brock; three sisters, Mary Schriener, Marcella Schank, and Kathryn Fritz.

Rita was a 1935 graduate of Attica High School, 1937 DeSales College with a Cadet teaching diploma, and graduated in 1957 with Bachelor of Arts from Heidelberg College (Cum Laude).  She received the Keller Award at her graduation for holding the highest four year average in the class of 1957. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Catholic United for the FAITH. She was secretary for the Willard, Republic and Tiffin Teachers' Associations, Tiffin "Right to Life Association" and for C.U.F. and a member of Seneca County Retired Teachers Association.
She worked for 42 years teaching area elementary students in one room schools in West Lodi and Reedtown, Ohio. She taught in Tiffin, Willard and Republic. During the summers she taught school for Spanish-American Migrants from 1965-1981, aided in the organization of kindergartens at Willard, Tiffin, St. Mary's Catholic School and migrant kindergarten in Old Fort. Rita enjoyed music, sewing, reading, and writing.

Visitation for family and friends will be 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 85 S. Sandusky Street, Tiffin.  The funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the church officiated by Rev. Gary Walters. The rosary will be recited 20 minutes prior to the Mass at the church.  Burial will take place immediately following the Mass in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery.
