Richard J. Ewald, 79, of Tiffin died at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at St. Francis Home, Tiffin.

Richard was born April 3, 1934 in Tiffin to Herman J. and E. Jane (Chamberlain) Ewald. On October 24, 1959 he married Eulalia "Chris" (Bugner) in Alvada, Ohio.  Chris survives in Tiffin.

Other survivors include a son, Michael (Jackie) Ewald of Stow; a daughter, Melinda (Deb Pierce) Ewald of Tiffin; two grandchildren, Andrew and Allison Ewald; a brother, James R. (Jane) Ewald of Tiffin; 20 international children, Maria of Brazil, Peter, Fredrik, Johan of Sweden, Oivind of Norway, Martin of The Netherlands, Mario, Juan, Jordi of Spain, Kyoko of Japan, Andreas of Germany, Nicholas of Australia, Ronald of Denmark, Dirk of Belgium, Kari of Finland, Alex, Simon of Switzerland, Elina of Russia, Marija, Damir of Croatia; and 31 international grandchildren.

Richard was a 1952 graduate of Calvert Catholic High School and attended Heidelberg College. He served in the U.S. Army in Okinawa from 1956 to 1958. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and belonged to the Knights of Columbus, AmVets, Eagles and Moose Lodges. He was Co-Owner of Ewald Furniture, a private pilot of a Cessna 150 and loved his family, faith and work.

Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, March 16, 2014 at the Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 S. Monroe Street, Tiffin, OH 44883, 419-447-3113.  A Wake service will take place at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Prayers will be said at 9:30 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2014 at the funeral home, followed by a Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating.  The Rosary will be recited 20 minutes prior to the service at the church.  Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The United Veterans Council of Seneca County will perform military rites at the gravesite.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Calvert Catholic Schools or Community Hospice Care in care of the funeral home.
