Paul J. Breidenbach, 88, of Tiffin, passed away at 7:45 am Monday, March 10, 2014, at Seneca House.

He was born September 21, 1925, in Tiffin, to Elmer and Lorene (Weinandy) Breidenbach.  He married Christine Schetter June 26, 1948 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, and they shared the next 65 years together.   Christine survives in Tiffin.

Paul is also survived by two daughters, Paula (Dennis) Wise and Marcia Bakies, both of Tiffin; two sons, Stephen (Lucretia) Breidenbach and Dennis Breidenbach, both of Tiffin; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Arthur (Marie) Breidenbach and Thomas (Joyce) Breidenbach, both of Tiffin; and two sisters, Alma (Paul) Moffett and Suzanne (Phil) Hohman, both of Tiffin.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Rita Brickner.

Paul, having been raised on a farm just west of Tiffin, had a deep love and appreciation for the land.  In 1973 he achieved a lifelong dream of purchasing his first farm.  For the next 35 years, Paul enjoyed the daily routine of spending as much time as possible on the farm.

Paul was a 1943 graduate of Hopewell-Loudon High School.  He was an avid sports fan, especially Hopewell-Loudon and Ohio State sports.  He was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving in 1946 through 1947.

Paul went on to spend 30 years at National Machinery before being forced into early retirement due to a diagnosis of A.L.S., Lou Gehrigs Disease.  He bravely fought this battle for the remainder of his life.

He was a member of the National Machinery Quarter Century Club and a past member of the board of directors of The Bascom Telephone Company.  He also served as a lay distributor and parish council president at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Bascom, and he was most recently a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin.

Paul enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their activities as much as he possibly could.  He and Christine spent this last year living at Seneca House, and the family wishes to express great appreciation for all their help and care and kindness throughout this past year.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 pm Friday, March 14, 2014, with a Wake Service at 8 pm, at Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 S. Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio  44883 (419)447-3113.  The Quarter Century Club will meet at 7 pm Friday at the funeral home.

Prayers will be said at 9:30 am Saturday, March 15, 2014, at the funeral home, followed by the funeral Mass at 10 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church.  The Rosary will be recited in church 20 minutes prior to Mass.  Rev. Joseph Szybka and Deacon John Walter will officiate, and burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Seneca County United Veterans Council.

Memorials may be made to the A.L.S. Association, or Community Hospice Care, in care of the funeral home.
