MARJORIE J. BAUGHER

d. December 15, 2009

Surrounded by her family, Marjorie Joyce Baugher, age 80, a Tiffin native and recently of Curtis, MI, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, December 15, 2009.

She was born April 6, 1929 in Tiffin, the first child of the late L.C. and Thelma (Detterman) Crouse. The Detterman family goes back several generations in Seneca County. She is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Richard Baugher, son Glenn Baugher, and brother Bernard Crouse. She leaves behind loving daughters Kathy (Robert) Torvick of Santa Rosa, CA., Lorene (Gary) Bowman of Curtis, MI, and loving son Brian (Tammy) Baugher of San Mateo, CA, adoring step-granddaughter Avery, loving sister-in-law Mary Crouse of Maumee, OH., nieces and nephews, and good friend Dorothy Bowman of Fostoria and Curtis, MI.

A 1947 graduate of Columbian High School, Marge was a loving homemaker and worked at Gold Bond Furniture and Canteen as a secretary. She was member of St. John’s United Church of Christ. Following family tradition, Marge was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star #189 in Tiffin. She enjoyed singing barber shop music with the Glass City Fostoria Sweet Adalines where she made many friends. Her lovely alto voice added a wonderful quality to the performances. Marge was interested in family history and the history of Seneca County which lead to years of enjoyment in the Seneca County Genealogical Society. As an active member of the Mothers of Twins Club, Marge was honored as Mother of the Year. During the ceremony, the Club presented her with a tiara. Recently, she passed that tiara on to her delighted 3 year-old step-granddaugher, Avery.

Marge's musical talents were expressed not only in singing but in playing the accordian. As a teenager, she performed on stage professionally in Toledo, OH. Her kids recall summer "concerts" for the family when Marge would play her beautiful accordian and all the neighbors would sit on their porches to enjoy her music.

During their courtship and early marriage, Marge and Dick enjoyed riding his Indian motorcycle. They had great fun going on "runs" to Lake Erie with friends.

Recently, she moved to Curtis, MI in the upper peninsula to be close to Lori and Gary. From her home on South Manistique Lake, Marge enjoyed the spectacular 4th of July fireworks display and evening sunsets.

Her thoughtfulness was appreciated by her family and friends in the way she always knew just what to do and say to soothe, encourage, and show her love when it was most needed.

Graveside services will be 11 am Monday, April 26, 2010, at Greenlawn Cemetery.

The family whishes to thank the good people of North Woods Home Nursing of Newberry, MI who provided Marge with care, encouragement, and therapy and to Lake Superior Hospice, Marquette, MI who provided great care and comfort.

Memorials to these fine organizations would be welcomed: Lake Superior Hospice, Marquette, MI, who provided care and comfort; Seneca County Humane Society to honor her love of animals; St. John’s United Church of Christ where she found spirital guidance. Memorials are in care of Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419)447-3113.
