Leo Michael Sendelbach, 85, of Tiffin, passed away unexpectedly at 5:54 pm, Saturday, July 21, 2012, in the Emergency Room of Mercy Tiffin Hospital.

He was born October 5, 1926, Liberty Township, to Michael and Nancy (Koerper) Sendelbach, the youngest of seven children.

He is survived by a brother, Roland Sendelbach of Tiffin, and 16 nieces and nephews.

Leo is preceded in death by three brothers, Paul, Harold and Richard, and two sisters, Delores (Kenneth) Stears and Rita (Clarence) Smith.

Leo was a graduate of Calvert High School. He served in the US Navy, received his Bachelor’s degree from Bowling Green State University and a Masters Degree from Ohio State University. He taught math and science at various schools for 28 years including New Riegel, Scipio Republic, Elgin and Fremont Ross High Schools.  He was a member over his lifetime of St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin and St. Patrick/St. Andrew Catholic Churches, Liberty Township.  Leo attended Mass daily including the morning of his death.

He was an outdoorsman who over his lifetime enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and vegetable gardening.  He spent many years on his farm in Liberty Township before moving into the St. Francis apartments.  He was an avid reader and family historian.  He enjoyed several trips overseas including the Holy Land and Medjugorie.

Visitation will be 4-9 p.m. Friday, July 27, 2012 at Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 S. Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio  44883 (419)447-3113.  A Wake Service will be at 8 pm.

Prayers will be said at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, July 28 at the funeral home, followed by the funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at Sts. Patrick & Andrew Catholic Church, Liberty Twp., with Rev. Timothy Kummerer officiating.  Burial will follow at St. Andrew’s Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Sts. Patrick and Andrew Catholic Church.
