Karl J. "Jay" Kayser, 94, of Toledo, formerly of Tiffin, died at 8:28 am Friday, August 22, 2025, at Ohio Living Swan Creek, Toledo.

Jay was born May 25, 1931, in Findlay, OH, to Karl A. and Mary (Simons) Kayser. He married Marguerite A. “Peg” Klein on June 14, 1952, and she died May 5, 2024.

Survivors include four sons, Timothy (Debbie) Kayser of Oregon, OH, Donald (Margie) Kayser of Toledo, OH, Matthew (Cindy) Kayser, of Fort Collins, CO, Daniel Kayser of Ashville, NC; two daughters, Nanette (Rod) Drew of Temperance, MI, Janette (Dennis) Schell of Maumee, OH; 19 grandchildren, Jason, Matt, Kevin, Erika, Kirk, Kristen, Jenna, Justin, Jessica, Kyle, Scott, Terry, Iris, Jacob, Anna, Kalani, Kekoa, Katie, Audrey; and 32 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, James Klein of Cincinnati, and two sisters-in-law, Mary Jolene Smith of Tiffin and Jean Lutes of New Riegel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and three brothers, Thomas Kayser, John Kayser, and Daniel Kayser.

Jay was a 1949 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School and earned an accounting degree from BGSU, a master’s from Ashland University, and was a C.P.A. He served in the United States Coast Guard from 1951 to 1954. Jay worked in accounting at Maumee Valley Hospital, Toledo; Medical College of Ohio, Toledo; Sharon General Hospital in Sharon, Pennsylvania; and Mercy St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was an All-Buckeye in high school football. He was a high school football Referee for many years in northwest and north central Ohio.

The Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 8, 2025, at All Saints Catholic Church, with Rev. Timothy Kummerer officiating. Burial will follow in St. Boniface Cemetery, New Riegel, with the New Riegel American Legion performing military rites. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass at the church.
