JOHN ROBERT (BOB) STEINMETZ

John Robert (Bob) Steinmetz, age 87, of Valley View Place, Tiffin, died at 10:55 am Monday, February 16, 2009, at Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.
He was born January 23, 1922, in Seneca County, to the late George R. and Ursula M. (Niederkohr) Steinmetz. On July 16, 1942, he married Donna J. McGowan, and she died November 5, 1989. On April 21, 1990, he married Hazel M. Meisner, and she survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Thomas Steinmetz of Bucyrus, Dennis (Julie) Steinmetz of Eureka, Calif., and Daniel (Jennifer) Steinmetz of Sacramento, Calif.; two daughters, Janet (Kenneth) Stahl and Lynn (Donald) Warwick, both of Tiffin; a step-son, Paul E. (Marcia) Meisner of Alvada; two step-daughters, Patricia (Charles) Renward of Castalia, and Deborah (Jerry) Gause of Raleigh, NC; 20 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard (Anne) Steinmetz of Tiffin; and a sister, Rita Moyer of Tiffin.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Joseph and Philip Steinmetz, a brother, George Steinmetz, and an infant sister, Helen Steinmetz.
Mr. Steinmetz attended St. Joseph Grade School and graduated from Calvert High School. He attended Case Western Reserve and Tiffin University. He then served in the Naval Air Squadron VPB-92 in the US Navy during WWII. He retired in 1985 after 32 years as a Layout Person at National Machinery Company. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the National Machinery Quarter Century Club.
Visitation will be today, Wednesday, from 6 to 8 pm, at Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419)447-3113. A Wake Service will be at 5:45 pm tonight. Prayers will be said at 9:30 am Thursday, February 19, 2009, at the funeral home, with a funeral Mass following at 10 am at St. Mary Catholic Church. The Rosary will be recited 20 minutes prior to the Mass. Rev. Gary Walters will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the United Veterans Council.
Memorials may be made to Community Hospice Care or St. Mary’s Campus of Calvert Catholic Schools.
