John P. Zeiger, age 82, of Sycamore Street, passed away at 8:13 A.M., Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at Mercy Tiffin Hospital.
John was born in Seneca County to the late Frank J. and Anna C. (Cass) Zeiger on July 24, 1927. On June 29, 1973 he married Agnes Distel in St. Joseph Catholic Church and she survives in Tiffin.
He is also survived by Dr. John (Joan) Zeiger of Fort Wayne, Ind., Ann (Robert) Handley of Marion, Donald and Mark Zeiger both of Tiffin; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and one sister Mary (Earl) Streaker of Findlay.
John was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy (Reinhart) Zeiger; two brothers, Frank and Robert Zeiger; and four sisters, Sister M. Celeste O.S.U., Sister Marcelline O.S.U., Joan Murdock and Lillian Zeiger.
John served in the Navy during W.W. II in the New York area. John worked at the Domestic Laundry for many years, and also at Mercy Hospital of Tiffin for 20 years retiring in 1992. John graduated from Calvert High School in 1945; he was a member of St. Joseph Parish, the Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree and the Moose Lodge of Tiffin.
John was a very jovial and happy person who loved to joke with people in any way possible. John and Ag loved to go dancing. He made sure that everyone he met knew that his birthday was July 24th.
Visitation for John will be from 4 to 8 P.M., Sunday, July 4, 2010 at Traunero Funeral Home, 214 South Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio, 44883, 419-447-3113. The 4th Degree Knights of Columbus will stand Honor Guard from 6 to 8 pm, and a Wake Service will be held at 7:45 P.M. at the funeral home.
Prayers will be said at 9:30 A.M., Monday, July 5, 2010 at the funeral home, followed by the funeral Mass at 10 A.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. The rosary will be recited 20 minutes prior to the Mass.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Ursuline Sisters, St. Joseph church and Calvert High School.
