John T. Welly

John T. Welly, 86, of Tiffin, died at 9:27 am Wednesday, October 7, 2015, at Mercy Tiffin Hospital.

He was born January 1, 1929, in Tiffin, to Jacob F. and Mary Ann (Tiell) Welly.  He married Marilyn A. Coleman May 2, 1953, in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, and she survives.

Also surviving are five children, Barbara (Lloyd) Creeger, Thomas Welly, Donna (Scott) Swartz, Daniel (Susan) Welly, and Dennis (Angie) Welly, all of Tiffin; 18 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; a brother, Joseph (Mary Ann) Welly of Tiffin; three sisters, Florence Reinhart and Lila Faber, both of Tiffin, and Mary(Franklin) Reineck of Risingsun.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Louise Mackling and Matilda Gerschutz; and two brothers, Charles and Martin Welly.

Mr. Welly served in the US Army 101st Airborne Division in Japan and Korea from 1950 to 1952.  He retired from General Electric Company after 29 years in Diecasting and inspection.  He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Bascom, the VFW in Tiffin, life member of D.A.V. and the American Legion Post 354, New Riegel.

Visitation will be Sunday, October 11, 2015, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm, at Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 S. Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio  44883 (419)447-3113.  A Wake Service will be 1:30 pm Sunday and the New Riegel American Legion services will be at 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Visitation will also be held Monday, October 12, from 8:30 am until the time of funeral Mass at 9 am, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Bascom, with Rev. Timothy Kummerer officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Bascom, with military rites conducted by the New Riegel American Legion.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice, or for Masses, in care of the funeral home.
