John W. Barto, 85, a resident of St. Francis Home, Tiffin, died at 4:05 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012. He was born May 23, 1926 in Adams Twp., Seneca County, Ohio to W. Harold and Nellie (Koons) Barto.  He never married.

Survivors include, two sisters, Mary Jo (Carl) Nay of Tiffin; Sharon (Bill) Schoen of Naples, Fla.; two sisters-in-law, Doris Barto of Old Fort, and Barbara Heffner of Youngstown, Oh; nine nieces and a nephew.

John was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother, Grethel Barto, an infant sister, two brothers, Eldon Barto and James Heffner, and a niece Becky Sue Barto.

John helped farm the family farm near Morrison Lake for years, and then retired to Bettsville, Ohio with his father in 1981 where he resided until two years ago.  In spite of a lifelong physical disability, he was a cheerful person and enjoyed a full and satisfying life; and was loved by his family and friends.  He was known for his impressive recall of life events.

Visitation will be 12 – 1p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012 at Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory 214 S. Monroe Street, Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419) 447-3113.

The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.  Burial will follow in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Donna Van Trees.

Memorials may be made to Community Hospice Care or to St. Francis Home in care of the funeral home.

The family would especially like to thank the staff at St. Francis Home for their compassionate care during John’s stay there.
