Jack Edwin Short, age 81, of Walnut Street, Tiffin, died at 9:20 p.m., Monday, May 3, 2010 at Volunteers of America Autumnwood Care Center.

Jack was born in Wheeling, W.Va. on December 14, 1928 to the late Gilbert and Minnie (Britton) Short. He grew up in Brookside, Ohio and Charleston, W.Va. In 1949 he married Patricia Bennett Short who died in 1985. He married Leah Cottrell of Elkview, W.Va. in 1991 and she survives in W. Va.

He is survived by four daughters, Sharon (Steve) Paulman of Pittsville, Md., Rebecca (John) Trumble of Tiffin, Catherine (Guy) Dunn of York, Pa., and Nancy Short of Catonsville, Md.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two sisters, Doris Crawford, of Richmond, Va. and Mildred (Harold) Howie of Charleston, W.Va.

Jack graduated in 1947 from Stonewall Jackson High School in Charleston, W.Va. and attended college at West Virginia State and University of Charleston (formerly Morris Harvey College). He served in the United States Army in Okinawa during the Korean War and worked for the Chesapeake and Ohio Telephone Company for over 40 years, serving offices in West Virginia and the Washington D.C. area. He was an avid ham radio operator, fisherman, reader and faithful church member.

There will be a reception from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at 51 Walnut Street, Tiffin.

Services will be 10 am Saturday, May 15, 2010, at Abiding Savior Lutheran Church, Columbia, Maryland. Interment will be in Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Ellicott City, Maryland.
