Hubert I. Elchert, 79, of 192 St. Francis Avenue, Tiffin, died at Mercy Hospital of Tiffin on January 25, 2002 at 2:50 a.m. He was born on February 1, 1922, to Henry J. and Eva H. (Welly) Elchert. On April 12, 1947, he married Dorothy A. Welter. She died January 23, 2001. He is survived by one brother, George H. Elchert, one sister, Mrs. Anslem (Agnes) Reinhart, and many nieces and nephews.
He retired in 1987 from the State Highway Garage. He had also worked at Tiffin Glass Company for 17 years. During World War II he served his country in the Army.
He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He was also a member of the American Legion Post, the Moose, the Eagles, and held life memberships in the Disabled American Veterans and the AMVETS Post 48.
Military rites will be conducted at the graveside.
