HELEN E. "BETTY" GILLESPIE

Helen E. “Betty” Gillespie, 83, of Tiffin, died at 9:10 pm Sunday, January 9, 2011, at her residence.

She was born April 2, 1927, in Tiffin, to the late Joseph Peter and Corinne Rose (Scheiber) Bork. She married Charles “Jim” Gillespie August 30, 1958, in St. Joseph Catholic Church. He died January 2, 2006.

Survivors include a son, Bob (Maureen) Gillespie of Hinsdale, Ill.; two daughters, Elaine Gillespie of Cincinnati, and Janet (Marc) Chafe of Charleston, SC; and nine grandchildren, Isabel, Philip & Elise Gillespie, Corinne, Sophie & Cecily Nelson, and Olivia, Sadie & Henry Chafe.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Kathleen Chambers.

Betty was a 1945 graduate of Calvert High School and a 1949 graduate of Marygrove College, Detroit. She retired as a home economist for Ohio Power Company. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a former president of its Rosary Altar Society. She also was a member of the Josephines, the Calvert Hall of Fame, and was past president of both St. Francis Auxiliary and Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, and a member of the Seneca County Home Economists. She also volunteered for the St. Joseph School Library and for Mobile Meals.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 pm Friday, January 14, 2011, at Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419)447-3113, with a Wake Service at8 pm . A Memorial Mass will be 10 am Saturday, January 15, 2011, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. The Rosary will be recited in church 20 minutes prior to Mass. Betty donated her body to the University of Toledo Medical School, with burial at a later date in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Community Hospice Care, St. Joseph Church, Calvert Catholic Schools, or Mercy Hospital Cancer Center, in care of the funeral home.
