Harry James Harper, 85, of Tiffin, died at 2:29 pm Thursday, March 3, 2016, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.  He was born Nov. 30, 1930, in Tiffin to Harry H. and Mary (Schreiner) Harper.  He married Jane Rumschlag May 4, 1957, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin and she survives in Tiffin.

Other survivors include, four sons, Dennis (Michelle) Harper of Tiffin, Joseph Harper of Farmington, New Mexico, Richard (Christie) Harper of Bellevue, Jeffrey (Cindy) Harper of Tiffin; a daughter, Suzanne (Ronald Cochran) Yoesting of Bellefontaine; 12 grandchildren, two great grandchildren; and a brother, Karl (MaryJo) Harper of Tiffin.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Lucille Fox and Kathryn Brickner.

Harry was St. Joseph Catholic Church’s first Eagle Scout recipient, a 1948 Calvert High School graduate, and he served in the United States Navy as a ship’s electrician during the Korean War.  He retired in 1990, from Atlas Crankshaft, Fostoria, as a journeyman electrician. He also worked at National Machinery, Grabler, and Hayes-Albion.  He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, a 4th degree Knights of Columbus member, and the V.F.W.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Mar. 8, 2016, at Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 S. Monroe St. Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419) 447-3113.  The 4th Degree Knights of Columbus will stand guard from 6-8 p.m. and a wake service will follow at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Prayers will be said at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Mar. 9, 2016, at the funeral home, followed by the funeral Mass at 10 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Rev. Joseph Szybka will officiate with Rev. James Steinle con-celebrating.  The Rosary will be recited 20 minutes prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will take place immediately following in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with military rites by the Seneca County United Veterans Council.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or to the Bascom E.M.S. in care of the funeral home.
