Florus U. Schalk, 86, of Tiffin, died at 5:47 pm, Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo.

Florus was born December 31, 1925 in New Riegel to Alphonse and Catherine (Reinhart) Schalk.  He married Viola Wurm, October 8, 1955 at St. Bernard Catholic Church, New Washington, and she survives.

Other survivors include, two sons, Gerald (Tammy) Schalk, Urban Schalk, both of Tiffin; a son-in-law, Patrick Hoepf of Tiffin; seven grandchildren, Lucy, Anthony, and Robert Schalk, Sr. Marie Laboure, Maria, Regina and Rebecca Hoepf; two great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Loren Schalk; three brothers, Simon Schalk of Carey, Raymond Schalk of Findlay, Arthur Schalk of New Riegel; and three sisters, Marie Scherger of New Riegel, Rose Smith of Tiffin, and Gervase Craig of Tiffin.

He was preceded by his parents, a daughter, Elaine Hoepf, two brothers, George and Bruno Schalk, three sisters, Rita Wurm, Irene Elchert, and Alice Nye.

Florus attended New Riegel High School, he then served in the United States Army during the Korean War as a quartermaster.  He retired in 1990 as an assembler from the National Machinery, after 38 years.  He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the American Legion, 354 of New Riegel.  Florus was an avid Euchre player and he enjoyed gardening.

Family and friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 pm, Sunday, November 18 at Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 South Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio, 44883, 419-447-3113.  A wake service will be held at 1:30 pm at the funeral home.

Prayers will be said at 9:30 am, Monday, November 19 at the funeral home, followed by the funeral Mass at 10 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church.  The Mass will be concelebrated by Rev. Joseph Szybka and Rev. Frank Murd.  The rosary will be said 20 minutes prior to the Mass at the church.  Burial will be immediately following in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Calvert Catholic Schools, St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Sisters of St. Francis, or to the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist, Ann Arbor, Mich. in care of the funeral home.
