Eugene L. Walliser, 88, of Tiffin, died at 9:28 a.m. Friday, February 22, 2019, at St. Francis Home, Tiffin. He was born April 10, 1930, in Tiffin to Frederick Francis and Louise Marie (Hohman) Walliser. He married Theresa A. Smith July 28, 1956, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, and she survives.
Other survivors include five sons, Thomas Walliser of Columbus, Joseph (Michele) Walliser of Winter Haven, Florida, Richard (Kim) Walliser of West Chester, Pennsylvania, John (Mandy) Walliser of Wayne, James Walliser of Woodville; five daughters, Anne (Jim) Duty of Woodville, Theresa Hernandez, of Tiffin, Mary (Doug) Walliser of Dunnellon, Florida, Jeani (Buddy) Colley of Canfield, and Amy Walliser of Boston, Massachusetts; 14 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Frederick Walliser, Jr., and three sisters, Imogene Collet, Lillian Yost, and Donna Steinmetz.
Eugene was a 1948 graduate of Hopewell-Loudon High School; he served in the United States Army during the Korean War from March 19, 1951 – December 24, 1952. He retired in 1991 after serving 34 years at National Machinery Company. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Quarter Century Club, National Rifle Assn., Maumee Valley Gun Collectors, the Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion.
Visitation for family and friends will be 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, at Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 S. Monroe St. Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419) 447-3113. Quarter Century Club will meet at 7 pm and wake service will be at 8 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
Prayers will be said at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, at the funeral home followed by the funeral Mass at 10 am, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Rev. Joseph Szybka will officiate. The rosary will be recited 20 minutes prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, with the United Veterans of Seneca County performing military rites at the grave site.
