Esther C. Wilson, 97, of Wellington, formerly of New Riegel and Norwalk, died at 10:37 am, Sunday, January 2, 2011 at Mercy-Allen Hospital, Oberlin.

She was born to Anthony and Eva (Theis) Huss in New Riegel on November 6, 1913. She married Virgil M. Wilson on November 29, 1941 in St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Riegel, he died on August 12, 1982.

Esther is survived by her son, Allen (Maggy) Wilson of New Riegel, her daughters, Joyce (Pete) Peterson, of Wellington and Jan (Dave Herlt) Devereux of Pawleys Island, S.C.; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Lucian Huss of Montoursville, Pa.; a brother-in-law, Jim Wilson of Tiffin; a sister-in-law, Annabelle Murray of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded by four brothers, Marcellus “Butch”, Cletus, Francis, and Victor Huss; three sisters, Celestia Tiell, Christina Bell, and Clara Burkett; and a brother-in-law, Harold Wilson.

Esther graduated as the valedictorian of the 1932 New Riegel High School class. She retired as an office manager for Wilson’s Heating and Sheet Metal and also for the Wilcart Company. Esther was a member of All Saints Parish, New Riegel, its Rosary Altar Society; Catholic Order of Foresters; Daughters of Isabella; a charter member of New Riegel Moose, New Riegel American Legion Auxillary; and the Cursillo Movement. She was an avid bingo and card player. She also loved to fish.

Family and friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 pm, Friday, January 7, 2011 where a combined Foresters, Moose and wake service will be held at 7:45 pm at Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 South Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio, 44883, 419-447-3113.

Prayers will be said at 9:45 am, Saturday, January 8, 2011 at the funeral home, followed by the funeral Mass at 10:30 am at All Saints Parish, New Riegel, with the Rev. Randy Geisige officiating. The rosary will be recited 20 minutes prior to the Mass. Burial will be immediately following at St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to All Saints Parish, the Victor Huss Vocational Fund of the Catholic Order of Foresters, or to a charity of the donor’s choice in care of Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory.
