Doris E. Swander, age 91, of Tiffin, passed away at 9:55 p.m. Saturday, October 5, 2013, at St. Francis Home, where she resided the last 7 months.

Doris was born on February 23, 1922 in Sulphur Springs, Ohio, to Mamie (Enders) Laux and Fred Laux. She married Charles W. Swander in Tiffin on July 3, 1942.

Survivors include her son, Delmar (Sandy) Swander of Maumee, daughter-in-law, Judy (Hade) Swander of Port Clinton; grandchildren, Scott Swander of Tiffin, Kevin Swander of Port Clinton, Brad Swander of Tiffin and Shellie (Dave) Zavatsky of Grand Blanc, Michigan; great grandchildren Jackie, Steven, Kasey and Kaden Swander and Andrew and Amanda Zavatsky; and one great great grandchild.   She is also survived by a niece, Pam (Mike) Perkins of Tiffin, nephews Tim Below of Tiffin, and William (Dee) Marquart of Bucyrus, a great niece, Nicole Perkins of Tiffin, and great nephews, Jason (Katie) Perkins of Tiffin, and Ethan Below of Findlay.  Also surviving are special friends and caregivers, Sharon and Dan Waters, and her "other" son, Tom Bridinger.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Charles, and sons Paul  R. and Glenn  L. Swander, her brothers, Delbert, Ray and Amos Laux, and sisters, Mary Laux, Evelyn Raywood, Isabelle Marquart and Ethel Below.

Doris was a 1940 graduate of Republic High School and was a member of First Lutheran Church. She was a lifelong resident of Seneca county. She and Charles resided on the family farm for almost their entire marriage. She was an avid card player and loved a good night at bingo.  Day trips to a casino with her friends was a favorite pastime. She was a homemaker and exceptional cook.  In her younger years she sewed habits for the sisters of Mercy Hospital. Her skills as a seamstress were well known and her family, friends and neighbors enjoyed the fruits of her labor. We all have "stitches" by Doris/mom/grandma.  Her potato salad was famous at all family gatherings. She was a member of the Know Your Neighbor club over 50 years.

Visitation will be 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, October 13, at Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 S. Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio  44883, PH 419-447-3113.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, October 14, at the funeral home, with pastor Kenneth Gillikin officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis Home, First Lutheran Church or charity of the donor's choice, in care of Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory.
