Clara L. Distel, age 90, formerly of Ohio Avenue., died at 6:25 am, Thursday January 15, 2009 at Elmwood Assisted Living at the Shawhan.

Clara was born April 20, 1918 in Tiffin to the late Fred B. and Clara I. (Weot) Cramer. On September 8, 1945 she married Eugene L. Distel in St. Joseph Catholic Church of Tiffin and he preceded her in death on June 26, 2001.

Survivors include; three sons, David (Barbara) Distel, of Findlay, Dean (Cindy) Distel, Jack (Anne) Distel, both of Tiffin; one daughter Jean (Dennis) Dom of Tiffin; a daughter-in-law, Carol Distel of Tiffin; 11 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Distel who died December 10, 2008; three brothers Louis, Frederick, and Mariom Cramer; and one sister, Mary Alice Baumgardner.

Clara graduated from Calvert High School, in Tiffin. She retired from food service for the Tiffin City Schools. Clara was also a homemaker and a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church of Tiffin at which she was a member of the Josephines. She volunteered at Mercy Hospital and St. Francis Nursing Home. Clara was a loving mother and grandmother and enjoyed gardening and being outdoors.

Prayers will be at 12:30 pm, Saturday, January 17, 2009 at the funeral home followed by the Funeral Mass at 1 pm at Saint Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. The Rosary will be recited 20 minutes prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will be immediately following at St. Joseph Cemetery

Friends may call from 6 to 8 pm today, Friday, January 16, 2009 at Traunero Funeral Home, 214 South Monroe Street, Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-3113. A wake service will be held at 7:45 pm tonight at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Joseph Campus of Calvert Catholic Schools or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
