Carl E. Lampe, age 93, of Tiffin, died at 9:15 am, Thursday, March 29, 2012 at the Cleveland Clinic.

Carl was born in Fifty-Six, Arkansas, March 17, 1919 to the late Arthur and Carrie (Hedges) Lampe.  He married Ada E. Jacoby March 23, 1941 in Wauseon, Ohio and she survives in Tiffin.  They celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary March 23rd of this year.

He is also survived by three daughters, Janice (James) Betz, of Tiffin, Carla (Tony) Rupp, of Archbold and Cindy (Tom) Mowery, of Marietta, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Denise (Charlie) Toil, Michael (Karen) Betz, Melissa Rupp, Rebecca Rupp, Tyler (Aubrey) Rupp, Sarah Mowery, Anthony (Cristi) Ott;  six great-grandchildren, Larson and Lola Toil, Avery and Lily Betz, and Allison and Peyton Ott; and many nieces and nephews.

Carl was preceded in death by a son, Dennis E. Lampe; a daughter, Donna K. Ott; five brothers Oscar, Paul, Stuart, Freddy and Harold Lampe; and one sister, Doris Garland.

Carl graduated from Columbian High School in 1937.  He then served as a Corporal in the United States Army in the 29th Infantry Cavalry Reconnaissance Troop during World War II.  He was part of the D-Day mission at Omaha Beach, June 6, 1944.  Carl received two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star.  He was self-employed since 1946 as a grocer for many years and owned the first drive-thru beverage center in Tiffin.  He retired in 1981.  Carl was a friend of St. John’s United Church of Christ.

Family and friends may call from 10 am to 12 noon, Monday, April 2, 2012 at Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 South Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, 419-447-3113.

Funeral services for Carl will be 12 noon, Monday, following visitation, officiated by Rev. Pamela Easterday at the funeral home.  Burial will be immediately following in Fairmont Cemetery with military rites at the gravesite conducted by the United Veteran’s Council of Seneca County.

Contributions may be made to St. John’s United Church of Christ, AMVETS Post 48, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, or to F.A.C.T. (Financial Assistance for Cancer Treatment) in care of the funeral home.
