Alvin R. Thomas, Jr.

Alvin R. Thomas, Jr., 78, of Tiffin and Lynchburg, Virginia, died Saturday, August 15, 2026, at his residence in Lynchburg.

Alvin was born August 22, 1947, in Tiffin, to Alvin R. and Nina (Hughes) Thomas, Sr. On October 31, 1970, he married Cathy Gregory, and she died January 3, 2020. Alvin then married Betty Furrow on July 22, 2023, and she survives in Forest, Virginia.

Other survivors include a son, Allen R. (Amanda) Thomas of Bascom; two step daughters, Amy (Lane) Holbrook of Lewisburg, WV, and Kelly (Jesse) Caro of Forest, VA; a granddaughter, Noelle (Joe) Huston of Tiffin; six step grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and a brother, Larry Thomas of Orlando, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Cathy, and a sister, Patricia A. Thomas.

Alvin was a 1966 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School, and a Terra Technical graduate in welding, tool and die. He had worked at GE in Tiffin for 18 years and Ameriwood Industries in Tiffin for 26 years. Alvin was a member of the United Baptist Church, Tiffin.

Visitation for family and friends will be Friday, August 21, 2026, from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m., at the United Baptist Church, 419 Coe Street, Tiffin. Burial will follow in Fairmont Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be may to the United Baptist Church of Tiffin.
