Gerald Albert Rumschlag, “Jerry” or “Bushbunny” to anyone who knew him, age 73, of Tiffin, Ohio left this world on October 8, 2017, in the loving embrace of his family.

He leaves his wife of 49 years, Barbara (Laughlin) Rumschlag; his two daughters, Kerri (Daniel) Utendorf and Kristy (Matthew) Stenberg; his granddaughters, Amanda Lykins, Katie Stenberg and Lily Stenberg; his great-grandchildren, Brayden McClaflin and Hunter Thompson; his brother, James (Marilyn) Rumschlag; his sister, Jane Harper and many, many close friends and family members.

Jerry was born and raised in Tiffin, Ohio, the son of Albert and Marian (Phillips) Rumschlag.  He was a 1962 graduate of Calvert High School, served in the Army National Guard and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.  He was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 608 in Tiffin.  Jerry met his wife, Barbara, in 1964 and they married in 1968 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

Jerry retired from Farmland Foods in 2008 and was truly a jack-of-all-trades.  Jerry had many hobbies and loved to be outdoors.  His favorite pastime was historical reenactment with the Settlers of Yesteryear of which he was the club’s president, and shooting with the Hawkeyes Gun Club.  He was quick with a joke and a smile and loved to tease, often creating elaborate mementos for his friends and family.

Jerry had a passionate love for his family and spent as much time as possible with his children and grandchildren.  He was a constant presence at every game, recital, or activity in which they were involved.  He loved taking the kids for walks in the woods, teaching them to fish at the cabin, play dolls and legos and snuggling on the couch while they cheered on the Buckeyes.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Marian; his sisters, Ruth Francis and Joyce Palmer; and many longtime friends.

Visitation for family and friends will be 2-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, 2017, at Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 S. Monroe St. Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419) 447-3113 with a wake service at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Prayers will be said at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 13, 2017, at the funeral home followed by the Mass at 12 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church.  Rev. Joseph Szybka will officiate. The rosary will be recited 20 minutes prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will follow immediately at Seneca Memory Gardens.
