William A. Rider, 96, of Tiffin, died at 9:13 pm Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at St. Francis Home.
William was born July 24, 1920, in Tiffin, to Blake and Gertrude (Weiss) Rider. He married Marguerite E. Sorg, July 4, 1941, at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Liberty Township and she died Nov. 7, 2011.
Survivors include three daughters, Janet (Dan) Stein of Avon, Patricia (Jim) Gaver of Grand Blanc, Michigan, Nancy (Rick) Warnement of Charlotte, North Carolina; nine grandchildren, Christine Rogers, Amy Stein, Melanie Strickler, Jeffrey Gaver, Lisa Gaver, Matt Gaver, Andrew Warnement, Brent Warnement, Craig Warnement; 12 great grandchildren, Jason Rogers, Max Miksitz, Lily Strickler, Kinsey Gaver, Brad Gaver, Isabelle Gaver, Ellery Gaver, Allison Warnement, Emily Warnement, Ben Warnement, Will Warnement, James Warnement; and a sister, Dorothy Corthell of Tiffin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and a brother, Eugene Rider.
William was a graduate of Tiffin Calvert Catholic High School, served in the US Navy during WWII from 1944 to 1946, and retired from National Machinery after 40 years as a machinist. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, The Quarter Century Club at National Machinery and the Catholic Order of Foresters.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 pm, Friday, March 24, 2017, at the Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 S. Monroe Street, Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-3113, with the Quarter Century Club meeting at 7 pm. and a Wake service at 8 pm.
Prayers will be 9:30 am, Saturday, March 25, 2017, at the funeral home, followed by the Funeral Mass at 10 am, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. The Rosary will be recited 20 minutes prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with military rites provided by the Seneca County United Veterans Council.
Memorial contribution may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Francis Home, Community Hospice Care or the Seneca County United Veterans Council in care of the funeral home.
