Viola M. (Wurm) Schalk

Viola M. Schalk, 88, of Tiffin died at 5:55 a.m. Thursday, September 15, 2016, at Good Shepherd Home, Fostoria.

Viola was born March 27, 1928, in St. Stephens to Edmund and Rose (Faeth) Wurm.  She married Florus U. Schalk October 8, 1955, at St. Bernard Catholic Church, New Washington. He died November 14, 2012.

Survivors include two sons, Gerald (Tammy) Schalk and Urban (Lenore Bergstrom) Schalk all of Tiffin; a son-in-law, Patrick (Rae Lyn) Hoepf of Tiffin; seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ralph (Louise) Wurm of New Washington.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Elaine Hoepf; a brother, Francis Wurm; and two sisters, Germaine Flock and Margaret Breyley.

Viola was a 1946 graduate of New Washington High School.  She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and had retired from the dietary department of the St. Francis Convent.  She has also worked at Shelby Sale Company.  She volunteered at Mercy Hospital, St. Joseph School Cafeteria and St. Francis Home.  Viola was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, an avid card player and loved to bake cookies.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 19, 2016, at St. Joseph Catholic Church followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. The Rosary will be recited 20 minutes prior to the mass at the church.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
