Donald Eugene Hopple, 84, of Republic died at 6 a.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at his farm home.

Donald was born Feb. 5, 1932 in Republic to Loran and Lois Hopple. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Suzanne (Smith) Hopple, whom he married Feb. 5, 1959.

Other members of his loving family include a son, Dave (Mari) Hopple of Maple Valley, Washington; three daughters, Donna (Bill) Hudacek of Republic, Deb Hopple of Clyde, Dyan (Jim) Steffen of Findlay; ten grandchildren, Will Hudacek, Sarah Hudacek, Rachel Hudacek, Piper Hopple, Yori Hopple, Yoshiie Hopple, Ellie Steffen, Jimmy Steffen, Lexie Steffen, Maddie Steffen; and a brother, Jim Hopple of Fort Wayne, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Douglas Hopple; a brother, Loyal Hopple, and a sister, Nancy Alley.

Donald was a 1950 graduate of Republic High School, served in the U. S. Army as a MP Specialist 1st Class from 1954 to 1956. Don worked at G.E. for 26 years and was a lifetime farmer. He enjoyed family time, quiet time in the woods by himself, steak, potatoes, and ice cream.  Don was a multitalented problem solver and handyman. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Farm Bureau, the NRA, the Scipio-Republic Historical Society, and the Nifty Fifties.

A Celebration of Life will be 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, May 21, 2016 at the Republic American Legion, 112 Washington Street, Republic, Ohio 44867 (please dress casual).

Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 23, 2016 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Kishore Kottana officiating.  The rosary will be said 20 minutes prior to the Mass at the church.  Burial will take place immediately following in Seneca Memory Gardens with military rites provided by the United Veterans Council of Seneca County.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in care of the Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 S. Monroe Street, Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-3113.
